Now many of you will know that since the beginning of 2018 I have been following a plant-based diet and at the age of 41 I have never felt better but it was not all plain sailing, my weight dropped by just over a stone and energy levels became fairly depleted and so began the journey to understand my food and all its benefits.
Now snacks can mean different things to different people it could be a bag of crisps, fruit, pre-packed sandwich even a mini meal, to me, it should be something I can easily grab and go, packed with protein, vitamins, amino acids, fats, low in sugar and good carbs.
If I’m out and about all day then I always have a small tub of nuts and seeds to hand in my bag maybe some homemade energy balls or bars as these are packed with vitamins, minerals, like magnesium, iron, copper and they have a good balance of carbs, and because of their high fiber, protein and healthy fat content, these carbohydrates are digested at a very slow pace.
Those days that I’m working from the studio it’s even easier, I take some homemade hummus which can be flavoured any which way you like, cut up some veggies to dip in or maybe a nice salad with added seeds and pine nuts and no matter what I’m doing I always have fruit on hand.
By applying the simple but effective changes to my diet I have seen my weight increase my energy levels are at an all-time high, I find I can concentrate throughout the day and I do not overeat at meal times and all this through intelligent snacking.
What do you like eat for a healthy snack?
For many years I have enjoyed an active lifestyle, this included rock climbing, mounting biking and windsurfing now days its all about the yoga, swimming or going to the gym, and along side all of these I take a great interest in the foods that I consume. I love to research new recipes and know how all the different whole foods that I am using are going to benefit me not only with my physical body but also my mental body. I love to share and inspire people to be come healthier be it through yoga, or adopting a cleaner whole foods eating plan.
