How was your Sunday?
I had a Sunday like have not had for a while. My usual Sunday’s are getting up early, go to the studio, get ready to teach, teach, have lunch in the studio and spend the rest of the day working in the studio.
Sundays are usually the day when I feel very inspired to write blogs, do the social media posts and I get a lot done in an afternoon. I always feel creative and surprise myself a lot with the things I come up with. 😁😁😁
But .. yesterday was different. Actually the whole week was different!
I don’t know if you are feeling like me but the last few weeks I have been feeling very tired, not wanting to get up in the morning, falling a sleep during meditation and even not feeling very inspired to practice.
So I reached out to a yoga teachers and studio owners facebook group to ask if they had any tips or suggestions.
What I learn is that we have to adapt to this time of the year, that feels colder, we wear heavier clothes, we eat heavier food, its darker, so we are not so awake, and so on.
One studio owner very rightly said that sometimes is not about doing more, ie go for hike, take another yoga class somewhere else, go for a massage etc, all very good suggestions but they didn’t resonate with me. He asked “are you sleeping enough?”
Beeeeeennnngggggg … no I am not. It was clear to me that I need to sleep/rest more. I kinda knew it, because if I fall a sleep in meditation it can only mean one thing, right?
The truth is that I have not been resting enough for the physically and mentally demanding job I have now.
So Friday I spent my day off in pyjamas and didn’t leave the bed until lunch time, yesterday after the class did some emails and came home to do some ironing, cooking and enjoyed the rest of the evening watching a movie.
One other thing I started doing – I stoped during the summer – was to use my essential oils again. I have been diffusing oils at night in the bedroom to help me have a restorative sleep, I have start applying in my wrists every morning energetic oils like grapefruit or orange wild.
I started using oils last year and they have prevented me and Ian to catch any flu. We are in such direct contact with students every day that the oils have helped boost out immune system, yesterday it helped relief Ian’s headache, the other day he used in his bath, they are our pharmacy, I love using them to calm my senses. I use it for cleaning and there’s so much more that I am still learning.
I learn best by teaching so I am going to share my knowledge with you about oils, learning along the way and we can support each other this winter to have a winter with no diseases and feel that we have in the cupboard everything we need and 100% natural. 👍🏼
I will start with Lemon oil. It is the most versatile, it is a must because it has so many proposes. I start my day by applying one drop in a glass with warm water in the morning, I have this as soon as I get up and before I meditate. It wakes me up, hydrates me and I feel good about doing. I also sometimes use a drop on smoothies, I use it to clean the kitchen and bathroom and sometimes just put a drop in the palm of my hands, rub my hands and inhale it for a few breaths.
The feeling is refreshing, awakening and fruity like summer.
The good thing about these oils is that one drop goes a very very very very long way and we can also mix them with other oils. To help me drink more water in the winter I add a drop with a drop of Peppermint in my water bottle and it feels so goooooooood.
I hope this is helpful and if you are feeling tired lately it is ok. Make adjustment to your day if needed and reach out to natural ways to give you energy. Switch the morning coffee for something healthier. I did.
